Oakley: Innovation in Prescription Lenses

OakleyOakley announced a breakthrough that will allow many people with higher prescriptions to wear high-wrap sunglasses. Called Oakley True Digital Edge, the proprietary innovation will be available only with Oakley Authentic Prescription Lenses.

“Now patients who want the unrivalled style and improved side protection of high-wrap lenses won’t be impeded by prescriptions that would normally require them to settle for flatter sunglasses, or choose high wrap lenses with poor optics and inferior cosmetics,” said Oakley CEO Colin Baden.

Using standard processes currently utilized in the industry, the manufacture of high-wrap lenses for out-of-range prescriptions results in excessive lens thickness and weight. The problems are not limited to cosmetics and comfort. Optical distortion reduces the practical field of view and the thickened lens edge can cause distracting distortion.

Oakley True Digital Edge increases the prescription range up to +4.00 and up to -6.00, giving patients the clarity they need and the style they want with a minimum 120-degree binocular field of view. Oakley technologies eliminate the peripheral distortion that can result when prescriptions are applied to high-wrap lenses, a common aspect of optical physics.

Baden continued, “High-wrap frames have unique aesthetics that make them enormously popular, and the curvature improves side protection against sun, wind and impact. However, customers will sometimes fall in love with Oakley sunglass frames and be told by their eyecare professional that their prescriptions are out of range for the desired designs. Solving the problem for many, Oakley True Digital Edge will extend the range of choices and allow optical shops to increase business while better serving their customers.”

Oakley’s proprietary process begins by reformulating the prescription using Oakley True Digital (OTD) technology. This optimizes clarity and accuracy of vision from the centre of the lens to the edge, even for the company’s most extreme wrap sunglasses. Thanks to Oakley Thin-Zone the company is able to thin the lens edge by as much as 40 per cent to enhance aesthetics, safety and comfort of vision. The finishing stage entails a frost treatment to block any visual noise and/or distortion.

“Visionary technology is a foundation of Oakley, and Oakley True Digital Edge further underscores our global leadership position in optics,” Baden concluded.

A Magical Touch

VolteFace

The founder and creative director of Volte-Face, Fabienne Coudray-Meisel, brings her keen personal insights to the chic world of high-end eyewear. For each new line, she has a very special way of using volume, colours, textures and materials. The models are designed and worked like exceptional pieces of jewellery.

Following on from the success of the GUAX line, well known for its astonishing undulation effects, three new concepts (models Betsy, Blum and Berny) have been added to the collection. Flowing lines are improvised on the material with a highly distinctive rendering obtained through diamond etching. The result is quite simply amazing, combining the absolute brilliance of the chosen acetates with a very personal interpretation of “retro” style.

The new three full forms of the Bali, Brass and Blink models are on their way to becoming major fashion items. Fabienne Coudray-Meisel uses the full range of her imagination in the combination of colours and acetate materials, which she chooses very carefully. The design abounds with original graphic effects and highly sophisticated print patterns to produce a simply stunning result.

Volte Face is distributed by J.F. Rey.Eyewear Canada.

The Trend is Colour

optika

This excellent mix of stainless steel metal frames and rich textured multicolour acetates has been expanded to include frames for men. These specific models are super lightweight, since they are all made of stainless steel. Colours include dark navy, brushed silver and dark gun.

For the acetates, the keyword is colour. The new styles have a strong impact with frames offering red swirls like the NC2709 model. Acetate fronts with stainless steel temples present judicious combinations, such as for the NC2710 model featuring a multicolour emerald green acetate front.

Design as a Total Concept

MarchonValentino

The defining elements of Valentino’s contemporary language – metal studs, stylized logo, and vibrant yet sleek elegance – punctuate the winter Valentino collection, distributed by Marchon.

A square unisex acetate model with a distinctive line across the brow has a timeless look. Two small metal studs on the frame front add a unique touch, while a heat-embossed Valentino logo is delicately placed on the temples. This frame is available in two versions: the V656S model is Havana acetate on the outside and iconic Valentino red inside with metal studs, while the V670S is Havana streaked acetate for men and black and white acetate for women with subtle tone-on-tone studs.

The curvy oversized acetate model V664S has a gilt metal trim on the bridge that forms the iconic V. The left temple bears a gold Valentino logo adding a luminous accent to the eyes.

A Unique Model

Ziggy

It’s an immediate success for Ziggy’s Collection nº 3. “We gave it this name because it resembles no other frame from this collection,” says Cécile Tronel of Zig Eyewear.

Presented for the first time in Paris at last year’s Silmo, Collection nº 3 by designer Cendrine O. is distinguished by a very feminine design and epoxy strass applied to a metal shape.

The colours work with different skin tones and all ages because of the combinations of brown and purple, black and silver, burgundy and light brown.
