LIFE MAKES
FOR A urniture that can heal? Stockholm-
based designer Marina Lothigius
likes to dream big and for that
particular dream she created a
Ftable with a textured top that can
help soothe the person who touches
BEAUTIFUL it. And to help heal our world she uses
plastic waste that would otherwise end up
in the ocean, along with recycled metal
and plant-based plastics to create eyewear
frames that are technically superb and
aesthetically delightful.
STORY: It makes sense that a girl with a wild
imagination for her own adventure stories,
who kept busy inventing, drawing, and
playing with building blocks would grow
up to be a designer. The family influence on
MARINA young Marina was strong and diverse: both
parents had degrees in aeronautics, and her
mother designed and made clothes, jewelry,
and sculpture, while teaching design and
mathematics. “Her creativity and the way
she fulfilled dreams of doing what she loved
LOTHIGIUS later in life was a big inspiration for me in my
career choices and daily life,” says Lothigius.
After graduating from an industrial design
program at Sweden’s Lund University—a great
foundation for learning the methodology
and design thinking behind projects—
FOR ECO ® Lothigius landed an amazing job with the
Danish design firm Jacob Jensen Design.
They knew a good designer when they saw
one and quickly promoted her (at age 26) to
